Display and Pre-select Composite Products based on Simple Product Selection

We need to implement a feature that enhances the shopping experience for users interested in a specific simple product. The goal is to display a list of relevant composite products on the simple product's page and automatically pre-select that simple product when the user navigates to the composite product page.

    Current Behavior

Currently, a user must manually search for and select composite products that contain the simple product they are interested in. Once they navigate to the composite product page, they must then manually select the simple product from the available options.

    Desired Behavior

On a simple product's page (e.g., the Husky Dog product page), we want to display a new section, similar to "Featured Products," titled something like "Configure with these Bundles" or "Available Composite Products". This section should show a grid of all composite products where the simple product (the Husky Dog) is a selectable option.

When a user clicks on a composite product from this grid, they should be redirected to that composite product's page. Upon arrival, the simple product (Husky Dog) should be automatically pre-selected from the available product options.

    Example
    1. A user is on the Husky Dog simple product page.
    2. A new section titled "Configure with these Bundles" displays two composite products:

      • Dog Training Kit (a composite product where Husky Dog is an option)
      • Ultimate Pet Lover's Box (a composite product where Husky Dog is an option)
    3. The user clicks on the Dog Training Kit product from this section.
    4. The user is taken to the Dog Training Kit page.
    5. On this page, the Husky Dog product is already checked/selected from the configurable options, saving the user a step.

    Hi Aneel,

I understand your request. However, searching all composites to see if they might contain the current product is challenging and can significantly slow down your site. Users can select component products by category or keyword rather than specific products, making it difficult to trace back.

Are you using any page builder? For example, Elementor? Please create the "Available Composite Products" section manually. You can customize which composite products appear in that section.

    Best regards,
    Dustin
