I’m working with a fairly simple scenario, but I can’t get it to work as intended.
I sell a basic product, a pen in different colors (e.g., green, red, black). Each color has its own stock, like 10 green pens, 5 red, and 3 black. That part works fine.
Additionally, I offer accessory products like a paper case or a wooden case for the pen. These are also simple products with their own inventory — for example, 10 paper cases and 5 wooden cases.
Here’s what I want to achieve:
The customer selects a pen color (e.g., green — 10 in stock).
Then they can optionally choose a case.
The selection should show the available stock of the selected case (e.g., only 5 wooden cases available).
The total price should adjust depending on the selected case (e.g., +€1 for wooden, +€0.50 for paper).
This setup isn’t possible with standard product variations, since that would require defining stock for every possible combination (e.g., green pen + wooden case), which isn’t feasible — I don’t know in advance which combinations the customer will pick.
To solve this, I purchased WPC Composite Products for WooCommerce. I’m now able to select the global product attribute for color, but this attribute does not appear on the product page.
Am I missing a step, or doing something wrong in the configuration?
I want to display my color attributes, not the product itself.
In my first post, you can see the color attribute with its values.
Why can’t I set a color as the default instead of a product?
I don’t want to create a separate product for each color.
Right now, the plugin isn’t working as expected, because if I can select an attribute as the source, I want to be able to use that source.
Unfortunately, our plugin does not work like that. The attribute source is the basis for getting the products with that attribute and displaying it in the dropdown for the user to choose from. If you want to add options to a product, try another plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpc-product-options/
Of course, when you move from a variable product type to a composite, the variants are no longer used. It's the same as when you move to a simple product or a group product.

Hi Christian,
You can divide this product into two components: Pen and Case. Then, select products for each component.
The result will look like this:

Hey Dustin,
this is exactly my problem – it does not appear.
I want to display my color attributes, not the product itself.

For the cases, I need the plugin — and that part works — but I also need to display the regular WordPress/WooCommerce attributes at the same time.
The problem is: when I configure a product to work with the plugin, all standard attributes are removed.
I need both:
the normal WooCommerce attributes (and their variations)
the plugin’s functionality
At the moment, there’s no option to have the product set as a physical product or variation and use the plugin simultaneously.
Example:
Global attribute: Color → Blue, Green, Red, etc. → Currently nothing is shown.
I need these attributes to display alongside the cases.
Current situation:
Products Case A and Case B work fine with your plugin’s selection feature.
But attributes I’ve already defined are ignored when using the plugin.
Ideally, those attributes should appear as additional dropdowns or buttons — nothing more is needed.
Why I think Product Options is not the solution:
I already have defined attributes, but they’re ignored when the plugin is active.
Simple test to reproduce the issue:
Create a Variable Product.
Add some attributes (e.g., Color).
Generate variations from the attributes, set prices — now the product correctly shows the color variations.
Switch the product type to Smart Composite.
You’ll see:
Attributes still appear in the backend
Components you define with the plugin are also shown
But the variations are gone.
I need the variations to remain visible and functional while still having the ability to use other products (with their stock levels) as options.
Of course, when you move from a variable product type to a composite, the variants are no longer used. It's the same as when you move to a simple product or a group product.
If you want to use such product attributes, you need to combine Composite with another plugin of ours: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpc-linked-variation/
Here is the demo page: https://demo.wpclever.net/wpclv/product/composite-02/

Funny enough, I actually tried this plugin as well, but I still wasn’t able to achieve my goal.
I’m feeling quite frustrated and think I’ll just request a refund and avoid using any WP plugins in the future.
Could you please arrange the refund? Thanks.
We have processed your request and refunded this payment. It's sad to hear that our plugin doesn't meet your requirements.
Hopefully, we could still have your interest and support for other promising plugins on https://wpclever.net
