I am selling product bundles with product variations (eg: red or green boat with an S or XL life jacket). If someone buys the red boat with the XL jacket, does the inventory go down -1 exactly for these two variations?
and do I have to put the green and the red boat in the bundle to solve this problem or is it also possible to just put the boat itself in the bundle. as I don't want people to have the feeling that both, the red and the green one are included in the bundle.
1. For your information, our plugin manages the stock of the bundle based on the available stock of bundled sub-products.
If you are using any caching plugin or an external inventory and warehouse plugin, that might cause issues since these plugins keep caches and prevent our plugin from updating the real-time stock of bundles.
When one of the bundled sub-products goes out of stock, the whole bundle will be out of stock.
If all of your bundled sub-products only use the stock status (In stock/Out of stock) with no quantity configured, you can freely set up any stock for the bundle by enabling the "Use stock management at bundle level" option >> Update then go to the Inventory tab to enter a stock quantity.
If one of the sub-products has stock management enabled with a specified stock quantity, the stock management will be enabled for the main bundle.
More on Stock Management:
1.1. Stock management at product level:
For your information, when there is at least one of the bundled sub-products in your bundle has this stock management enabled in the Inventory tab of their single product page, this option will also automatically be enabled for smart bundles that include them.
Hence, in the Inventory tab of the Smart bundle page, this option will always be enabled when any of the bundled items have this turned on.
1.2. Stock management at bundle level:
When stock management at bundle level is checked & press Update, users can go to the Inventory tab, enter a stock quantity for the bundle.
NOTE: The stock quantity of a bundle must NOT be higher than the available lowest stock of the bundled sub-products.
In case you would like to set up a specific stock quantity for the main bundle, ALL of your bundled sub-products must be in stock and only configured with a stock status instead of a stock quantity. If any of your bundled sub-items has a stock quantity configured, it will tie the smart bundle's stock to that quantity.
For example:
- Item 1: In Stock
- Item 2: In Stock
- Item 3: In Stock
=> Enable stock management at bundle level, configure stock quantity: 9 >> OK.
- Item 1: 3 In Stock
- Item 2: In Stock
- Item 3: In Stock
=> Enable stock management at bundle level, configure stock quantity: 9 >> the quantity will always change to 3 after pressing the Update button. You can still configure the stock quantity of the bundle to be 2, 1, or 0.
>> Stock management at the product level is always prioritizedover stock management at the bundle level.
2. About setting up the offer you want, I recommend that you create 2 variable products: Boat and Jacket. If you still have other variations, you can add both 2 items to the bundle so customers can choose which color and size they want for each product.
In case, the variations you would like to add are whole (has a specified term for different attributes), you can directly add just the variations from the Search box.
For your information: When you type in to find items to add to a smart bundle, please notice the mark at the end of each line:
- "variable #..." is for the variable product. If you choose an item with this mark, it will add the whole variable product with all of its variations to the bundle.
- "variation #..." is for the variation. All variations belong to each variable product will be listed under the parent product. You can choose to add some variations to the bundle only.
If you would like to limit the choices, for example, keeping the color fixed as blue and let buyers choose the size (S, M, L, etc.) for each variation, you can add the variable product then click on the Config terms button at the end of the item to specify the term Blue for Color and leave the Size box blank.
