I am trying to create a bundle offer (3 products together). All my products come with free necklaces (the user can choose which necklace to have).
This works fine. now I want the bundle offer to have 3 items (fixed for the time being) as well as a necklace that the user selects. When this is allowed on the back-end but the front end it refusing to add / purchase.
I understand from other answers that nested composite products are not supported. I should use the force sells plugin however, I cannot add composite products to the force sell search box, they appear but are grayed out, they are purchasable from the shop and visible, I can however add simple products.
I am asking how I can achieve what I want to achieve and why are they grayed out.
1. For your information: You can combine Smart bundle/composite/grouped product with other products by using Bought Together (optional) and Force Sells (required).
The main product can be Smart bundle/Smart composite/Smart grouped, but the in the Bought Together/Force Sells tab, users can only add simple products, variable products and variations to be extra items attached to Smart bundle/composite/grouped.
Bought Together/Force Sells items cannot be special product types such as smart bundle and smart composite. That's why they are greyed out.
In the free version of above plugins, only simple and subscription products are supported. Variable products and variations are available in the Premium version only.
2. Now, if your Chain necklace and Round necklace are individual simple products, then you can just directly add them to the same component and mark it as optional. It's the same as now.
3. If your Necklace is a variable product with 2 variations, then you will need the Premium version of our plugin to add that variable product as Bought Together/Force Sells.
Your Deshr Scarab is a normal product with a gift, then please open the Bought Together tab if this gift is optional or use Force Sells tab if this gift is required/ always attached then add the necklace to the main product. It would be easier than creating a smart composite for that offer.
4. Within the smart composite, you can add that necklace product directly as a component then enter 0 or 0% in the New price box to make it a free gift.
Thank you for you're response. It clarifies quite a bit. So in general you would recommend making all products simple (to manage stock) This way each chain has a separate stock. I would then use force sells / Bought Together depending on whether they are required or optional. The current setup is then over complicated due to the use of smart composite products.
I assume this change makes it also easier for other types of offers to exist. Is there a quick way to make the changes in batch or would I have to do this for each product ?
It's possible to configure a fixed product or list of products as Bought Together/Force Sells items to all products in your store using custom codes.
However, if the choices for Bought Together/Force Sells vary depending on the main product, you will need to manually configure the items in the corresponding tab of each item on their single product page.
Our developers will need to access the admin area to check the structure of your site and offer custom codes to insert Bought Together/Force Sells in bulk to all products. But before we can offer that service, we need to verify that you're holding an active license for these plugins.
If you decide that you will just use the free version to insert simple products, we cannot offer the customization support above. You will need to manually configure the items for your offer.
