We've about 1000 products (motifs), and a few components of the things we can do with them (crafts). On each product hosting WPCC, need to swap the generic images of those components with the real ones of the given hosting product. To achieve this with other component plugins, we had to copy some of their templates to the child theme, and proceed to modify to fit them to our needs. But WPCC does not seem envisaged that way. From a quick glance it becomes apparent that everything follows from single file: wpc-composite-products.php.
How could one approach the scenario described? Are templates still supported in WPCC, but not so obviously, or is this something at least seriously considered for an upcoming version?
Thanks for contacting us here. We are not available at the weekend so today (Monday) we are able to reach back to you.
May I ask for more confirmation of your request? You would like to replace the main product image with the image of the latest chosen component, right?
If that is the case, we can offer free customization to WPC Composite Products if you purchase the Premium version of our plugin. We might need to verify your license and access the admin area to investigate your current theme/template & other plugins as well.
If that is not what you meant, you can kindly specify your question more with some images or a link to your published product so that I can help you out.
Thanks for your reply and the generous offer. Actually, the task is the other way around. Need to replace the component image with one of the images already part of the main product gallery. This is more difficult, as such change to be flexible enough to apply to 1000 products at once will require of a naming convention that does pattern matching, so the component will know each time what image to choose from the given main product gallery to make the change with.
Anyway, that task is already done. In other plugins, It required of a few custom functions called from within the template that loads the component images themselves.
I've reviewed WPCC from a developer POV, to get a sense of how easy would be to customize for future projects. Components are a powerful tool, quite more flexible than ordinary variables or options, and I like the licensing model of WPCC better than other offers. But your answer seems to imply that templates aren't supported in WPCC at this time, so hope you'd consider them in future versions.
