Do you have a proper documentation on how to setup composite products?

When I create a composite products, do I need to create a product for each composite? And if yes, how do I hide them from the shop and make them only visible in the composite product?

Would really appreciate your help here!

    Great work guys!

    Hi Markus,

Thank you for contacting WPClever Support Forum. Actually, we have some posts to help users with the help of creating composite. The cases vary a lot so we often instruct step by step but not by documentation.

First, create a new product by Add New, then in the Product data, choose Composite Products type. Then you’ll see the composite setting for components and the overall pricing.

In order to create a composite products, you don't need to create new products, but in your case, you'd like to hide them from the shop and search, then it's necessary to create new ones. Each of these products will be added to the composite as a component.

You can adjust the Visibility of each product by finding the widget area when you click Edit the product, then in Visibility option, choose Hidden. If you want to use your existing products on your store but don't want customers to find them via clicking on each item, then simply go to Composite Products plugin setting in the dashboard, find Link to individual products >> No. Then customers won't be able to click through it.

To add something as a component, you must first choose the Source for it. If you choose Products, then you can add a simple, variable, or a specific variation to each component. If you put all your products under a unique subcategory for composites only, then you can choose Categories as Source. Then just type in a keyword to find the needed product/category to add into.

Choose Required for required components, no for optional items. About the pricing, there are 3 ways: only base price (the price you set in the General tab) of that composite product, include base price (regular + prices of components), exclude the base price (the sum of all component's prices).

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. I'm happy to help.

    Best regards.

    • When I don't need to create new products, why am I forced to choose a product or category when I enter a new component? Could you explain how I can create a component without creating a new product?
    • If I create a new product for a component and hide it, the client will see in "Private: Component Name" in his order. How can I change that?

    Hi Markus,

    1. If you want to hide the products you added to components from search and shop archive, then you must create a new one then choose the visibility as Hidden. If you use your current products, hiding them from the shop and search is not enough to be sure customers won't find it, because who have the exact permalink to your published products can still access this by clicking on that link (like they bookmarked it or added to wishlist, some plugins allows this, some users claimed this kind of errors before). It's also easier for you to manage stock if you set up separate stocks for components products in a composite and that same product as an individual product.

    2. Products or Categories, it's a matter of codes and how we treat these. But if you create a new one, you should choose Products, if you already have that products you want to add in, use the Categories. Use the Categories will save your time of creating new products when you want to bundle your existing products easily just by putting all needed products under a new unique subcategory. Like a Tshirt can belong a bundle of Tshirt collection, while it's also in a combo of recommended items with caps and pants, etc.

    3. That is dependent on your theme and other WooCommerce plugins you're using alongside ours. As some theme is missing components for WooCommerce special product types, some plugin may change the behavior or our plugin. If you're using an external plugin for order collection, it might require some customization. Normally, when we hide it from the search and shop, and choose No in Link to individual products, then there is no such thing.

Hope my explanations are clear enough.

    Best regards.
